- Assistant Editor – Crawley up to £25,000 DOE
An exciting opportunity for an Assistant Editor has arisen due to continued growth by a leaning media and events publisher based in the Crawley area.
The ideal candidate will have;
A relevant journalism degree or NCTJ
Solid writing/journalism experience (ideally gained within B2B journalism however not essential) – Minimum of 12-18 months experience required
Social media experience
Solid IT skills including Microsoft packages, Adobe packages (InDesign/Photoshop)

The role will offer a long term career within print, digital and event journalism. Supporting an experienced Editor, you will be given first class support and training which will also include press trips and attendance to industry events in the UK and overseas. Working across print, digital and event media you will produce news articles, product and feature articles, interviewing industry leaders and growing social media channels
In return a basic salary of up to £25,000 is being offered depending on your experience. As well as mapped out career path, other company benefits include regular pay reviews and an annual staff weekend away in Europe fully paid for by the company!
Other responsibilities will include;
Write, sub and proof editorial copy (including news / new product information / features) to ensure the quality of production, to avoid costly mistakes, to maintain house-style, factual accuracy and objectivity and to meet deadlines
Progress editorial material to schedule to ensure that journals are planned for best use of space
Support the Editor in liaison with service departments and sales managers and sub-contractors (e.g. printers) to ensure that deadlines are met
Attend press visits and represent the magazine at industry events as required by the Editor for a fact-finding purpose for writing articles, to see contacts and source new ones and to take relevant photos, to raise the profile of the journal and build up industry knowledge.
Produce copy for our website, and update website with news, diary events and show information
Maintain our social media (Twitter and LinkedIn) profiles with information
Maintain awareness of all departmental activities and cover for colleagues in their absence
Respond to general external enquiries and problems
Suggest topics for publication and contribute ideas
Lay out pages (editorial copy and photography) using InDesign packages and to ensure that editorial pages are created to house-style and in a manner acceptable to the relevant industry efficiently, cost effectively and aesthetically
Process InDesign packages into print-ready PDFs
