Senior Legal Counsel – Disputes Lawyer

 





  • £38-£51.00 p/hour (£70-100k)




  • 9-month maternity leave contract – could be extended further




  • Division: Litigation and Disputes team.




  • UK based – London or Manchester office options, or home working can be considered. Will be asked to attend bi-monthly team catch ups in either the London or Manchester offices.







Key liaison between the Head of Legal (HoL), team members and groups businesses. Providing technical, timely, commercially aware legal advice on all aspects of disputes and litigation for across Telecoms, Retail, Gov Services and Public Sector clients.

 




Principal Responsibilities





  • Efficient progression and resolution of litigation and disputes with clients and suppliers.




  • Provision of timely, strategic, commercial and technical legal advice on all aspects of disputes and litigation.




  • Develop relationships with stakeholders across the group and help to promote the disputes and litigation team and wider legal team within the business.




  • Engage with external panel legal firms for litigation advice and assistance (and escalate for non-panel advice), ensuring effective cost management.




  • Drafting key documentation, including pleadings, effective settlement agreements etc. (with minimal supervision).




  • A trusted business partner for other teams within the wider business, including divisional business units, other functional teams and their leadership teams.




  • Assist with the development and implementation of legal policies, procedures and guidance, including training, and in particular the policies for litigation management.




  • Gatekeeper for and advocate of the governance framework (Delegation of Authority).




  • Managing continuous personal professional development, sharing know-how with the disputes and wider legal teams and assisting with development and dissemination of legal training as required, under guidance of HoL.




  • Contributing to the maintenance of precedents, template agreements and know-how.




  • Liaising with and supporting the HoL on group wide or divisional projects and/or reporting, regarding dispute resolution and effective litigation management.




  • Ensure that the HoL is kept advised of relevant disputes and litigation and ensure that a “no surprises” culture is maintained.




  • Any other duties and responsibilities reasonably required that are commensurate with the role.







Experience





  • At least 5 years PQE




  • Must be able to work with limited supervision and be able to lead, manage and resolve complex disputes.




  • Must be a commercial disputes specialist with extensive experience of court proceedings.




  • Must have experience of reviewing, negotiating and drafting bespoke documents (i.e. not simply amending standard templates).




  • Must be able to demonstrate the ability to draft key correspondence on complex disputes (e.g. contract breach) such as letters of claim, responses to letters of claim etc.




  • Experience of leading the resolution of disputes from inception to conclusion (e.g. lead lawyer in settlement meetings/mediations).
