- Lloyd Recruitment Services are pleased to be working with an award winning private medical practice who are in search of a Perioperative Technician / Health Care Assistant to join their expanding team. Our client is a specialist in their field and have patients referred across the UK and internationally due to their outstanding reputation.
Role summary:
The post holder will work as a valued member of the multi-disciplinary theatre team providing outstanding patient care for patients undergoing surgery. You will directly contribute to the safe and efficient running of the department, including the admission area, operating theatres, and operative recovery room, as well as the reprocessing of surgical instrumentation and equipment. You will learn to undertake all duties in each aspect of the patient’s journey, to successfully participate in delivering a high standard of care, privacy, and dignity.
The role consists of both clinical and non-clinical duties, as well as the opportunity to undertake vocational qualifications and further training. The business has grown and continues to grow under a 'family’ environment within the head office based in East Grinstead.

Duties and responsibilities:
The position will involve but not limited to following duties and responsibilities.
The set up and preparation of all clinical areas within the theatre department, undertaking required daily checks, stock management and preparation of equipment, helping to maintain the standards of cleanliness expected within the theatre environment
The preparation of clinical paperwork and documentation prior to each patient’s arrival
The efficient and correct admission and preparation of patients on arrival for surgery, undertaking and understanding the checks required prior to surgery
The safe movement of patients within the operating department and between departments as required, as well as the safe and sensitive escorting of patient’s relatives and carers in and out of the theatre department.
Undertake patient observations and record monitoring readings throughout the surgical pathway
Provide support and reassurance to patients undergoing regional or local anaesthesia
Participate in the preparation of the operating theatre, including the organisation of sets and consumables ensuring adequate supplies are available for immediate use
To assist with correct patient positioning for a range of surgical procedures, maintaining each patient’s dignity and privacy
Undertake circulating duties within the theatre, assisting the scrub practitioner with surgical set up for each procedure, including all governance procedures to ensure patient safety; swab, sharps, and instrument checks, checking of patient consent and allergies for surgery, participating in World Health
Organisation surgical checklist:
Participate in the correct completion of surgical documentation of care provided as appropriate
Following necessary training, carry out flushing, washing, sterilisation and decontamination of instruments, in line with safety protocols and standard operating procedures
The assist in the preparation and transport of stock and equipment to other facilities for planned and unplanned operating lists
Manage the distribution of goods received to appropriate areas, including the inspection and documentation of incoming goods and receipts against purchase orders and specifications, relaying any discrepancies to the Theatre Manager
Be the responsible party for ensuring that waste management is undertaken correctly, including the correct disposing of stock received packaging
Assist with the maintenance of all theatre equipment, reporting any faults to senior members of staff
At all times respect confidential information obtained during your work
Successful use of our in-house inventory control system to manage stock and track consumables
A perioperative technician be trained to undertake other duties specific to the area, in which they are working and are responsible for recognising their personal limitation
At no time should a procedure be carried out until clinical instruction has been received and competence is demonstrated by the collection of supporting evidence and underpinning knowledge, adhering to the HCA code of Conduct
Undertake any other duties appropriate to the post
Key skills and experience:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills techniques are crucial with computer literacy including a working knowledge of Microsoft office
Excellent organisational skills to ensure patients and medical staff receive timely and quality support with the ability to multitask
Empathy for dealing with patients and their families.
Excellent problem-solving skills especially when dealing with challenging situations
Excellent customer service skills and the ability to put the needs of patients first
The ability to function well in a team while taking on individual accountability to provide effective administrative support
Willingness to learn new tasks and the ability to take on and accept responsibility
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and deal with the public in a sensitive way
Education and training
To take responsibility and ownership for his/her own professional development by personal study, in-service training and attending relevant study days and professional courses as required
To be educated to HCA level 2 or 3 standard and open to additional training as required

Knowledge:
Understanding of medical terminology

Previous knowledge of ophthalmology
Experience:
Previous experience relevant to the post
Previous experience working in healthcare
Previous experience in ophthalmology
Previous experience working in a perioperative environment

Understanding of care pathways
Experience in undertaking audits and reporting the findings
Experience in working with stock control systems and ordering resources
