The role:
As Branch Supervisor, you will be at the heart of the day-to-day operation, combining customer service and sales with team leadership and general branch management. You will be the first point of contact for customers, helping them find the right products, resolving any issues and ensuring they receive a professional and efficient service.
Alongside this, you will help keep the branch running smoothly and make sure the team has everything they need to deliver a high standard of service.
Key responsibilities:
- Taking the lead within the branch and providing support and direction to the team
- Welcoming customers and dealing with enquiries in a friendly and professional manner
- Building positive relationships with both existing and prospective customers
- Identifying opportunities to increase sales and re-engage previous customers
- Helping the branch achieve its commercial targets
- Advising customers on products and services and ensuring their requirements are met
- Keeping an eye on stock availability and arranging replenishment where necessary
- Receiving incoming deliveries and checking quantities and products against delivery paperwork
- Organising stock within the branch and ensuring products are easy to locate
- Processing sales, quotations, orders, returns and refunds using the company's internal systems
- Keeping records up to date and providing management with relevant information
- Carrying out regular stock checks and investigating any discrepancies
- Making sure the branch is presented to a high standard and remains clean, organised and safe
- Following company policies and ensuring safe working practices are maintained
- Escalating any concerns relating to stock, security or customer issues to management
- Getting involved with other duties to support the wider business as needed
Experience required:
- Previous experience in a supervisory or team leader position
- Experience within a builders merchant, trade counter, construction or similar environment would be advantageous
- Confident dealing with customers face-to-face and over the telephone
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Comfortable working with computerised stock, sales or ordering systems
- Good understanding of stock management and goods-in procedures
- Forklift experience would be beneficial
- Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to work
- Commercially aware with an understanding of sales and customer retention
- Able to organise your own workload while supporting the wider team
- Positive, approachable and confident leadership style
- Reliable, flexible and happy to get involved wherever needed
The ideal candidate will be a confident and personable team player who enjoys dealing with people, is commercially minded and takes pride in keeping things running smoothly. You will need to be comfortable working in a busy environment and able to use your initiative when dealing with customers, stock and day-to-day challenges.
