Job Overview
The Group Financial Controller is responsible for managing the European central finance hub, ensuring adherence to all group policies meeting reporting deadlines. The successful candidate will have a wide experience in improving process efficiency and quality to ensure the best possible service for colleagues, customers and suppliers.
The role will focus on working closely with the VP Europe, the VP Finance Director and the local country Sales Manager, providing financial information both country specific and regional analysis
The role will have a responsibility to continue to develop the centralisation hub structure of the Finance function, ensuring fiscal control are in place and cross training plans developed
The position will also work closely with the European HR director ensuring payroll, pension and employee benefits are in line with Group polices
The role will be fully engaged in the European budget process ensuring alignment with the local Sales Manager, VP Europe & VP Finance Director
The role will provide financial presentation materials both monthly & quarterly highlighting areas of deviation to Plan and LY with explanation. The person would be expected to travel to European countries when required
The role will be a partner to the external consultants appointed, to ensure Statutory, VAT, IntraStat & Taxation compliance for our European entities, providing, as requested, information from the finance teams
The position will ensure all European entities provides timely financial information ensuring the business provides fit for purpose support to ensure efficiency and profitability in the region
The successful candidate will be an ambitious and driven professional, with relevant experience of implementing change and process improvement into a multi-site operation. They should have an interest in managing internationally and be able to travel to visit other offices, key suppliers and Customers within the region’s responsibilities.

Responsibilities
Overseeing and managing all aspects of European Finance, for the legal entities in the UK, ES, NL, DK, SE, DE, PL
Have a dotted line with a reporting line through to IT
Driving business improvement using the data available to highlight opportunities or underperformance
Oversight of the month end process including ensuring the completion of the General Ledger and Balance Sheet reconciliations and production of the P&L statements, in control of A/R over due’s creating follow up actions
Ensuring financial reporting consistency in European units
Providing commentary and analysis around the company’s performance to the management team
Providing financial advice to managers regarding initiatives to improve the company’s financial performance
Meeting with department heads ensuring compliance with all relevant Finance policies
Managing and coordinating monthly reporting, budgeting and reforecast processes
Completion of the commentary around variance to budget
Working Capital Management and Cashflow forecasting
Preparation and timely submission of annual statutory accounts for all legal entities in the region with support from external consultants
Ensuring taxation submission returns are filed in timely fashion with support from external tax specialists
Liaising with external auditors and banks if required
Collaboration with Sales, Business Development, IT, HR and Finance functions to ensure company success
Mentor and evaluate the team; providing honest and constructive feedback in regular review meetings in accordance with the company IMPACT performance management
Objectives
The Group Financial Controller is to be a Business Partner to the VP. They should take an interest in the business and with functional competence contribute to building a solid business (e.g., margins, payment arrangements, collections etc)
The person should be a key contributor when developing the strategy for the region together with VP and the rest of the team
Analyse data trends to identify opportunities for continuous improvement
Support the growth and profit agenda, working with local teams providing financial information to support business decision
Drive improvement opportunities using the data available
To work with the global finance community to deliver best practise and drive collaboration of aligned finance tools and initiatives
Person Specification
An operational focused finance professional, with proven experience as a finance leader
A track record of delivering focused efficiency improvement using data analysis
Ability to drive change initiatives with a positive impact across an international company
Able to develop streamlined support functions and market strategies to drive efficiencies
Confident, collaborative, articulate and able to influence at all levels, through effective communication
Analytical, with a focus on results and solutions
Demonstrate sound judgement and effective decision-making skills
Flexible and adaptable in style, with the ability and willingness to switch from operational "hands on" to high level strategic activities on a daily basis
Credible presence with ability to build relationships with customers, internal sales managers and own staff
Calm, clear thinker that operates well under pressure
A high degree of commercial awareness and acumen
A good working knowledge of ERP processes and systems
Excellent communication, able to lead process improvement with communication to an international community
Pragmatic; gets immediate positive results rather than waiting to achieve the perfect outcome
Experience & qualifications:
Professional accounting qualification such as CA or CPA
Must speak and write English, but other European language ability desirable
Strong financial reporting and experience
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Confident dealing with senior stakeholders
Ability to solve complex issues
Able to work under pressure
Strong attention to detail
Experience using budgeting, forecasting and reporting tools
Advanced computer software skills, including Excel and other accounting packages
Business & results oriented leader who can develop and manage relationships across the company and with a wide variety of partners based on trust, teamwork and knowledge
