Deputy Editor – Hybrid working (office and WFH)

 

Lloyd Recruitment Services are working on an exciting opportunity for a leading media and events company in the Redhill area who are currently in search of a Deputy Editor to work for busy B2B portfolio. Not always 9am to 5pm and with the opportunity to travel internationally, the role encompasses traditional media as well as digital.

The role:

 

The ideal candidate will be required to interview industry figureheads, build up their contacts to break news stories online ahead of competitors as well as be competent to write longer feature articles for the monthly print publication.

 

In an increasingly digital word, candidates should know enough about SEO and what makes a good story stand out online to get to the top of the Google charts. There will also be an opportunity to improve your video filming and editing skills as the publication becomes ever-more digital.

 

The traditional magazine is the leading title in the sector, despite plenty of competition. Candidates should feel comfortable proofing and editing copy from non-English speakers as well as confident enough to write their own articles. Some of the big topics of today, such as climate change and the environment, digitalisation of the workplace and the impact of increased urbanisation, are all covered in the title. 

 

The role also involves the organisation of frequent conferences and webinars. Candidates will be expected to source good speakers for these events. The job will also include involvement in our own face to face exhibitions and conferences when travel returns.

 

Responsibilities

 



  • Daily online publication, social media updates


  • Weekly E newsletter


  • Organise frequent webinars and conferences (online and face to face)


  • Increase frequency of video output, both online and on socials


  • Ad-hoc International travel


 

Key responsibilities:

 



  • Write, sub and proof editorial copy such as news and features, to break news stories ahead of the opposition, to ensure the quality of production, to maintain house-style, factual accuracy and objectivity and to meet deadlines


  • Progress editorial material to schedule to ensure that journals are planned for best use of space


  • Support the Editor to ensure that deadlines are met


  • Produce video copy for online and social media


  • Attend press visits and represent the magazine at industry events as required for a fact-finding purpose for writing articles, to see contacts and source new ones and to take relevant photos, to raise the profile of the journal and increase industry knowledge


  • Interview industry figureheads


  • Opportunity to launch regular podcast


  • To break news stories


  • Produce copy for our website, and update website with news, diary events and show information


  • To maintain our social media (Twitter and LinkedIn) profiles


  • Respond to general external enquiries and problems


  • Suggest topics for publication and contribute ideas


  • Lay out pages (editorial copy and photography) using Adobe packages


 

Knowledge, skills and experience:

 



  • Ideal applicants will have sound knowledge of B2B media including print and digital formats


 

Skills/experience required:

 



  • Solid writing skills


  • Confidence to interview and attend client meetings


  • Effective forward planning


  • Subbing, proof-reading


  • Design and layout (knowledge of Adobe packages)


  • Microsoft Office


  • Degree in journalism (preferable not essential)
